FSP Group in the communityFSP Group is proud to be associated with Merry Makers Australia. We strive to raise money for this organisation at many of our social events. Merry Makers Australia has provided a unique opportunity for hundreds of intellectually and physically disabled people to develop and express themselves through the power of music and dance. Regular classes lead to significant performances including the Darling Harbour Christmas Pageant and Australia Day celebrations. They have appeared on stage with some of Australia’s leading artists. Their joy, hard work and determination result in performances that inspire people. Some of the Merry Makers’ greatest achievements have been in open competition at the City of Sydney Eisteddfod. In 1991, Scott Martin who has Down Syndrome and his partner, Lucinda Bryant, won first place with their presentation of “If I Loved You” in the Performance from a Stage Musical section. The group was again in the spotlight just recently when a documentary made about the dancers and their families , 'The Music in Me" , was awarded the prestigious Prix Pierre Salinger at the 24th Annual Avignon Film Festival in the South of France. In their twenty-four year history, this much loved performance group, whose ages range from five to fifty-five years, has received numerous awards and several documentaries have been made featuring their remarkable achievements. On Australia Day in 1992, the Merry Makers were named Australian Group of the Year and they are extremely proud and honoured to officially participate each year in the celebration of our National Day as Australia Day Ambassadors in New South Wales. Merry Makers Australia is a registered charity run purely on a voluntary basis with no fees being charged for classes, etc… it is truly a labour of love!
